Every wedding at Markree Castle is unique, but this one was truly something special – filled with real emotions, laughter, family warmth and unforgettable Irish atmosphere.
Bridal preparations began in the charming Butler’s Kitchen – a bright, relaxed space just next to the Gin Bar, perfect for those candid morning moments. There was excitement, joy and a beautiful moment of popping champagne surrounded by bridesmaids. Natural light filled the room, creating perfect conditions for documentary-style photography.
The groom’s morning started in Strandhill – a surfer’s haven on the Atlantic coast. After a visit to the iconic Strand Bar, the lads headed back to the Billiard Room at Markree Castle to get ready. The rich wooden interiors and classic feel made it the ideal setting for timeless portraits.
The ceremony took place in the castle’s chapel – a stunning space full of heritage and light pouring through stained-glass windows. The couple exchanged vows surrounded by history, their families, and the gentle sound of live music.
As we walked through the Woodland path and approached the Boathouse, something magical happened. A gentle giant named Fionn – an Irish Wolfhound and beloved resident of Markree Castle – joined us. Fionn isn’t the couple’s dog, but he always seems to know when love is in the air. Calm, friendly, and majestic, he posed gracefully with the couple, adding an unforgettable moment to their story.
After the ceremony, the guests gathered for speeches and drinks inside the castle, near the staircase – the usual reception area at Markree Castle. The atmosphere was warm and full of celebration.
The beautifully styled Dining Room took everyone’s breath away. All floral arrangements were created by the incredibly talented Olga from The Flower Shed Sligo. Every detail – from table florals to candles – was a reflection of the couple’s style and Olga’s unique vision. Her work has been featured in many of our past weddings – and she always delivers magic. See more wedding inspiration here.
Later that evening, the couple’s first dance took place under the Archway, lit by sparklers and surrounded by cheers. A second dance followed in the romantic courtyard, just outside the main hall. The evening ended on the dance floor inside, with laughter, hugs and nonstop celebration.
This entire story is now part of our Markree Castle Wedding Gallery and will stay in our hearts forever. If you’d like to see more slideshow highlights from this wedding, visit the Markree Castle Slideshow.
